First AILEEN Pilot Course Successfully Launches in Germany

AILEEN reached a key milestone with the successful rollout of its first pilot training course. Designed to address growing skill shortages in high-tech manufacturing, the inaugural seminar—titled "Fundamentals of Industrial Brazing: Main Processes, Quality Standards & Applications"—welcomed its first cohort of young vocational trainees in metalworking.

Hands-On Training for Future Aerospace and Defence Specialists:
The pilot course brought together between 11 and 13 young metalworking apprentices undergoing initial vocational education. Designed specifically for learners with limited prior exposure to industrial joining techniques, the intensive curriculum seamlessly blended foundational metallurgy theory with high-impact practical workshop training.

"By the end of the very first day, every participant was able to independently prepare a joint, select the proper filler material, execute the brazing process, strictly follow safety protocols, and evaluate their own work against quality standards."

Building the Standard for Advanced Manufacturing Skills:
Developed under the AILEEN initiative, this pilot serves as a blueprint for modernizing vocational education and training (VET). During the course, participants developed competencies in several key areas, including:
• Fundamentals of Brazing: Understanding how metals bond at temperatures exceeding 450 ºC and the principles behind industrial brazing processes.
• Safe Working Practices: Handling pressurized torches, flux materials, and thermal hazards while following industry-standard safety procedures.
• Practical Brazing Techniques: Mastering manual flame brazing while gaining an introduction to modern automated methods, including induction and atmosphere furnace brazing.
• Quality Assessment: Evaluating joint integrity and identifying defect patterns in accordance with international quality standards, including ISO guidelines.

What’s Next for the AILEEN Project?
The feedback and performance data collected from this initial pilot will be used to refine and standardize modular training packages across the European AILEEN ecosystem, supporting the future development of advanced manufacturing skills.
