Middle East Technical University Welding Technology and Non-Destructive Testing
Center (METU KATAMER) run two AILEEN pilot courses in Ankara, focused
on advancing high-level additive manufacturing (AM) and quality inspection
skills across Turkey’s aerospace and defence sectors.
Delivered in person by expert academic and technical trainers, the sessions
targeted both cross-disciplinary professionals and non-destructive testing
(NDT) specialists.
Designing for Metal AM: Directed Energy Deposition
(DED):
On February 4–5, 2026, METU KATAMER delivered the CU_AAM_02
pilot course, Design of Metal AM Parts for Aerospace & Defence – Part 2:
Directed Energy Deposition (DED). Taught in Turkish using English-language training materials, the
session gathered 20 multidisciplinary learners and professionals from
aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing companies.
Quality Assurance: NDT in Additive Manufacturing:
On February 5, 2026, METU KATAMER conducted the CU AI 01 pilot
course, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in Additive Manufacturing for Metals and
Polymers. Attended by 18 participants with existing backgrounds in NDT but
limited exposure to additive processes, the intensive one-day course covered
fundamental AM principles, structural discontinuities, relevant NDT
methods, international standards, and real-world case
studies.
Key Takeaways:
Through these pilot offerings, METU KATAMER continues to bridge academic
expertise with real-world industrial demands in Turkey. By refining
course prerequisites and expanding laboratory components based on
participant feedback, the AILEEN project is ensuring that European and
Turkish aerospace professionals receive the exact technical competencies
required for modern manufacturing environments.
