As modern maritime forces increasingly rely on advanced manufacturing
to maintain, repair, and innovate fleet capabilities, targeted technical
training has become essential. Supporting this evolution, FAN3D
recently delivered an intensive, in-person AILEEN pilot program at the
Alfeite Naval Base, empowering personnel from the Portuguese Navy and
Arsenal do Alfeite.
The three-day training ran from March 24 to 26, 2026, bringing
together 13 engineers, technical leads, and naval specialists for dedicated
sessions covering two key Competence Units:
• CU AI_02 – Metrology in Additive Manufacturing for Metals
and Polymers: Focused on high-precision measurement techniques,
dimensional control, and quality verification essential for
3D-printed components.
• CU AD_06 – Potentials of Advanced Simulation and Modelling
in Advanced Manufacturing: Explored cutting-edge digital simulation
tools to optimize manufacturing workflows, predict component
behavior, and streamline production.
The course emphasized practical, real-world applications over purely
theoretical models. The hands-on format allowed participants to directly
evaluate how precision metrology and predictive simulation apply to
naval assets and defense infrastructure.
The pilot was met with positive feedback from participants, with the vast
majority successfully completing the course and earning their
qualifications. Attendees particularly praised the immediate relevance of the
practical content to their daily operational challenges at the Arsenal do
Alfeite shipyard and naval base.
